About Us

"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God." Ephesians 2:8

We Believe...

In the one eternal God as revealed in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:1-3, John 1:1, Matthew 3:16-17)

All people by nature are separated from God by sin. (Isaiah 59:2, Romans 3:23, Ephesians 2: 1-3)

Jesus, true God and man, lived a sinless life, died on the cross, and was resurrected to life for the forgiveness of our sins and to reunite us with God. (John 3:16, Romans 5:8-9, 2 Corinthians 5:21)

We are saved by God’s gift, His grace, which we receive by faith. (Ephesians 2:8-9, Galatians 2:16)

The Bible alone is God’s inspired and inerrant Word. (2Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21)

God adopts us as His children through baptism, which Jesus commanded. (Matthew 28:18-20, Romans 6:4-6, Acts 2:39)

Jesus gives us Himself through His supper, assuring us of forgiveness and strength. (Matthew 26:26-28, 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)

We are called to give our lives to following Jesus and to connect other people to Jesus by sharing His love in our words and actions. (Matthew 28:18-20, Luke 24: 46-47, 1 John 3:16-18)

The Holy Spirit brings people to faith in Jesus and then chooses gifts to give to each of His children to strengthen the body of Christ. (1 Corinthians 12:1-11, 1 Corinthians 14:12, Romans 12: 4-8)

Jesus will come again in glory at a time only God knows to judge all people and give all believers eternal life. (Acts 1:11, Mark 13: 32-37)

Vision

In five years we can see...

...our sanctuary full of people: long-time members and neighborhood people; students from campus and multi-age folks who have heard about Mount Olive. All come to learn more about Jesus and worship together. There is lively discussion in the fellowship area as people meet between services or on the way to one of several Bible studies. Home study groups deepen relationships in the congregation and help integrate new people of all ages.

Our work in God’s kingdom is guided by the question: "Is this activity missional? Will we reach people for Jesus if we do this?" As a result the congregation’s service in the community has attracted people who want to know more about Jesus. The external focus of the congregation is increasingly reflected in the budget as more service and mission activities are funded. The use of the building has steadily increased during the week to accommodate Bible study, community service and outreach activities.

People who are invited to worship by friends tend to stay. The warmth of the fellowship, the clear Biblical preaching and the excellence of worship compel them to stay, and to invite their friends. The increase in Bible study offerings and small groups strengthens members’ faith, enabling them to deeply care for each other and confidently share their faith in their day-to-day lives.

The preschool continues to grow and the connection between members and preschool families is bearing fruit. In general, more young families in the area attend Mount Olive because of the excellent Sunday School and the commitment to family and youth ministries. Mount Olive is a "tri-generational" church that is ethnically and economically diverse. The depth of personal relationships across the congregation allows us to live in harmony as one in the body of Christ. Mount Olive leadership is prayerfully considering whether to add Sunday services, call additional lay or Pastoral staff, or expand our facility.

"And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved." (Acts 2:47)
