In Our Congregation...
The people of Mount Olive are prayer warriors. When a need is shared, prayers are offered up to God in member's homes, during worship on Sundays, and after Sunday services in a prayer center.
The knitters of the congregation create beautiful knitted Prayer Shawls. The creators of the shawls say prayers as they knit, lifting all the needs up to our Lord, the great healer. These shawls are given to congregation members, their friends, and acquaintances who are in emotional, spiritual, or physical need.
Care Team Ministry
What We Do
The Care Team is a sustaining presence of God’s loving care for members and non-members of all ages who are ill, hospitalized, or homebound. Care Team responds to non-medical "quality of life" needs of individuals and families not routinely provided by existing social service programs. Care Team respectfully provides physical, social/ emotional, and spiritual support in a flexible and responsible manner based on concern and care for those in need. Rest and relief for primary caregivers is also a part of the caring equation. Care Team Ministry is led by co-leaders and supported by pastoral staff, Oakwood Village, and Catholic Charities Care Team Ministry Coordinator. Catholic Charities, in partnership with other area social service programs, provides volunteer training and supervision. Training and continuing education are ongoing. Special topics include communication and listening skills, Dementia/Alzheimer’s Disease, aging, grief and loss.
Care Team Ministry Services
- Physical support through transportation to church and doctor appointments.
- Social and emotional support through friendly visits and phone calls.
- Spiritual support through Holy Communion, prayers and a compassionate ear.
There is no charge to the individual or family for assistance provided by the Care Team. Services are provided based on the availability of Team members.
Who Can Volunteer?
Any Mount Olive member is eligible to become a Care Team member. All Care Team members are screened through background checks and, if they provide transportation, a driver’s check is completed. Commitment is flexible and easy. No one is asked to do something that makes him/her uncomfortable. Because it is a Team effort, there is less burden on individual Team members and greater dependability to those being served.
What is expected of Team members?
Care Team members make a commitment to calling, visiting, transporting or performing activities within their comfort level and based on their availability and interest.
Care Team members meet once a month to review their caring ministries. Through these Team meetings, members provide each other with peer review and support. Team members are expected to participate in an orientation and training program provided by Catholic Charities.
Team members, and the people they serve, discover the joys of giving and receiving.

Throughout the year there are several Fellowship Events offered to members such as the annual Christmas Party, a Pie Social, and Fun and Games Night. While these are targeted mostly for our members, neighbors and friends are always welcome.
