In The Community...
Mount Olive and her congregation has a long history of supporting missions locally. The congregation supports the Oakwood Foundation, Road Home, Community Action Coalition, and Middleton Outreach Ministries. These organizations help care for, house, feed, and clothe our neighbors. We also host regular Red Cross blood drives.
Monday Morning Quilters
Each Monday morning a group of women come together for fellowship and to make quilts for others. In a typical year, the Monday Morning Quilters make 80 quilts. These quilts are sent overseas to Lutheran World Relief and given locally to Project Linus, the Dane County Jail Ministry and to members of our parish.
Meals on Wheels
Congregation members deliver meals to the homebound citizens of Madison through the Madison Meals on Wheels Program.
Mount Olive hosts a food pantry cupboard in the narthex open to members or anyone who walks through her doors. Bimonthly the food donations are taken to Middleton Outreach Ministry, a food pantry that serves West Madison (including the neighborhood around Mount Olive) and Middleton.
Giving Tree Program
During the Advent and Christmas season, Mount Olive hosts a Giving Tree where members can choose a card with a gift request on it, purchase that gift, and then return the gift to the tree. In the past these gifts were given to children of men and children in prison through the Angel Tree Program and to people of all ages in community day care centers, skilled care facilities, and homeless centers.
The knitters of the congregation create beautiful knitted Prayer Shawls. The creators of the shawls say prayers as they knit, lifting all the needs up to our Lord, the great healer. These shawls are given to congregation members, their friends, and acquaintances who are in emotional, spiritual, or physical need.
