In The World...
Mount Olive supports mission and relief efforts across the USA and across the globe. Compassion International (www.compassion.com) is a Christian child sponsorship organization that provides health care, education, ministry and poverty relief. Food for the Poor (www.foodforthepoor.org) is a Christian charity that does just what its name says--provide food for poverty stricken people. And they also provide sustainable housing and agricultural education. Faith Comes By Hearing (www.faithcomesbyhearing.com) provides audio bibles to military members and their families through their Military BibleStick Outreach. Through our affiliations with the South Wisconsin District (www.swd.lcms.org) and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (www.lcms.org) we help support relief and evangelism efforts around the world.
Each year Mount Olive hosts a Compassion Sunday, highlighting the needs of the world's children living in poverty. Compassion International is a program that lifts children out of poverty by addressing their physical, spiritual, social and economic situations. As members at Mount Olive, and as sponsors of children in this program, we help them ensure these needs are met but most importantly that they bring Jesus into the children’s lives and the hope Jesus brings to them through His Gospel. Compassion’s mission of being Christ-centered, child-focused, church-based and committed to integrity, allows our members to respond to the Great Commission and spread the Word of God to children. Sponsored children are allowed to grow into responsible and fulfilled Christian adults who continue sharing this blessing.
Adult Mission Trips
In 2013, Mount Olive sent a team of adults to Lorain County, Ohio for a week of mission work. During this week of service, the Mount Olive mission team served the senior citizen community of Lorain County doing home repair, home landscaping, painting in a senior center and spending time connecting with the senior citizens.
The location for the 2014 adult mission trip was Lexington County, South Carolina, during the first week of August. We worked with local organizations to help clean up, repair, and refurbish a neighborhood that was in need of attention. The residents were grateful for our work in sprucing up some of the yards, repairing roofs, and doing minor repairs in the homes.
In 2015, we chose to do a local servant event. At the home of one of our members we pulled weeds, trimmed branches, added mulch, carried furnishings out of the basement, etc.
2016 saw a Family Mission Trip to Superior, WI. The focus of this 4 day event was to encourage faith building within family units while serving others in Christ’s name. We cleaned up the yard at a domestic abuse shelter, helped out at the Boys/Girls club, helped clean/organize at the local arts center, and did some painting and sorting at the Habitat Re-Store. Also in 2016 we did a Saturday morning clean up at the home of a local teacher who is unable to do the yardwork herself.
