"Make me to know your ways, O LORD; teach me your paths." Psalm 25:4

Education Programs at Mount Olive

The Board of Education's purpose is to plan and administer all educational programs at Mount Olive Lutheran Church. We have classes for 2 year olds through adults on Sundays, a LOGOS mid-week program on Wednesdays for grades 1-8, and Vacation Bible School in the summer. We offer Adult Bible Studies at various times throughout the week.

Sunday School

Sunday school classes meet every Sunday during the academic year from 9:30-10:15 am for 2 year olds through 8th grade. Bible stories and lessons are taught on a 3 year cycle. The current curriculum is “Growing in Christ” from Concordia Publishing House. Rally Day, which is the kick-off for the Sunday School year, is held the first Sunday after Labor Day. Other Sunday School events include presenting Bibles to third graders, the Christmas program in December, a Palm Sunday processional, singing/assisting with worship during the year, and celebrating with an end of the year ice cream party.

Youth

Each Sunday between Labor Day and Memorial Day, the high school youth (LYF) meets in the youth room for education hour. This is a time of fellowship, Bible study, prayer, and discussion. The Sunday morning education time provides a relaxed environment for the youth to better connect their lives and go deeper in their faith. Click here to visit our youth page.

LOGOS

LOGOS is the name of Mount Olive’s strong mid-week education program and it is in its 44th year! Each Wednesday during the school year from 4:30-7:00 pm, students in grades 1-8 meet to study the Bible, enjoy supper together, play together and make music together. There is a registration fee which helps cover the costs of food and curriculum. Each spring the LOGOS students lead the worship service with a presentation of a musical. The students also contribute to worship by singing the in the LOGOS choir and playing chimes and handbells. The curriculum for LOGOS grades 1-4 is from the LOGOS Ministry program, grades 5 and 6 study Luther’s Small Catechism and 7th and 8th grade students study contemporary issues and review the catechism. Every other year a study of Martin Luther and the Reformation is part of the curriculum.

Adult Education Classes

Adult Education at Mount Olive Lutheran Church offers exciting opportunities for spiritual growth. On Sundays, classes meet from 9:30-10:20 am in a comfortable setting in the fellowship hall. Topics include Biblical studies, contemporary issues, Christian living topics, guest speakers, etc. Bring your cup of coffee and enjoy the many topics that have been planned throughout the year. During the week, bible studies occur at various times and locations in the church and in the homes of our congregational members. Mount Olive has a group for you. Please inquire in the church office.

VBS

Vacation Bible School (VBS) is an outreach to the children of the community as well as the congregation. Half-day classes for ages 3 years through 12 years are taught by volunteers from Mount Olive. Classes incorporate music, recreation, learning daily Bible verses, and crafts with lessons which are Bible-based. VBS continues to be a great way to introduce new friends to God’s Word. VBS takes place for a week during the month of June.

Library

Christian education has always been highly valued in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Martin Luther believed in an educated laity – what does this mean? It means that our library exists to educate, inform, entertain, and encourage our users with materials that are Christian- based and that reflect the beliefs and tenets of our Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. You will find CDs and DVDs for children through adults, Christian fiction for all ages, devotional materials, Bible helps, books to encourage and inspire in the Christian Living section, reference materials, a primary section with books for our youngest users, and much more. To check out any of our library items, simply write your name and phone number on the card in the back of the book or audio item. Place the card in the basket on the desk in room 111 or in the cloth pocket in the white hallway shelving unit. Books may be checked out for 4 weeks, audio/video materials for 1 week. Return items to the collection baskets in the hallway or room 111.
