Serving

"Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ," Galatians 6:2

Mount Olive has a long tradition of serving the people in our parish and our community. We seek to be the feet and hands of Jesus in our daily lives.

Monday Morning Quilters

Each Monday morning a group of women come together for fellowship and to make quilts for others. Over the last year, the Monday Morning Quilters made 84 quilts. These quilts were sent overseas to Lutheran World Relief and given locally to Project Linus, the Dane County Jail Ministry and to members of our parish.

Care Team Ministry

What We Do

The Care Team is a sustaining presence of God’s loving care for members and non-members of all ages who are ill, hospitalized, or homebound. Care Team responds to non-medical "quality of life" needs of individuals and families not routinely provided by existing social service programs. Care Team respectfully provides physical, social/ emotional, and spiritual support in a flexible and responsible manner based on concern and care for those in need. Rest and relief for primary caregivers is also a part of the caring equation. Care Team Ministry is led by co-leaders and supported by pastoral staff, Oakwood Village, and Catholic Charities Care Team Ministry Coordinator. Catholic Charities, in partnership with other area social service programs, provides volunteer training and supervision. Training and continuing education are ongoing. Special topics include communication and listening skills, Dementia/Alzheimer’s Disease, aging, grief and loss.

Care Team Ministry Services

There is no charge to the individual or family for assistance provided by the Care Team. Services are provided based on the availability of Team members.

Who Can Volunteer?

Any Mount Olive member is eligible to become a Care Team member. All Care Team members are screened through background checks and, if they provide transportation, a driver’s check is completed. Commitment is flexible and easy. No one is asked to do something that makes him/her uncomfortable. Because it is a Team effort, there is less burden on individual Team members and greater dependability to those being served.

What is expected of Team members?

Care Team members make a commitment to calling, visiting, transporting or performing activities within their comfort level and based on their availability and interest.

Care Team members meet once a month to review their caring ministries. Through these Team meetings, members provide each other with peer review and support. Team members are expected to participate in an orientation and training program provided by Catholic Charities.

Team members, and the people they serve, discover the joys of giving and receiving.

Food Share

One Saturday each month, Mount Olive hosts the SHARE program. SHARE is a non-profit, volunteer-run food buying group which has been in operation in the Midwest for almost 25 years. The mission of SHARE is to bring people together to build and strengthen community through volunteer service. SHARE provides access to good, nutritious food at reduced cost through a self-help distribution system. The products are purchased wholesale and are sold at prices 30 to 50% lower than grocery store prices. Items vary each month, but always include frozen meat and fish, fresh fruits and vegetables.

No membership fee, eligibility guidelines, or income limits are necessary to participate in SHARE. There are no volunteer requirements either, but participants are encouraged to either volunteer with SHARE, or in their local community. The only requirement is to order at least $15 of food at a time. An order is placed either on line with a debit or credit card or through an order form with cash, check, money order or food stamps. Order forms change monthly and are located at the Mount Olive Information Center in the narthex or on the SHARE website.
