New to Mount Olive? (FAQ's)
When are services?
Services are every Sunday at 8:00AM and 10:30AM. The earlier service follows a more traditional format, while the later service is more of a contemporary format. We have a coffee/fellowship time between services with adult Bible study and Sunday School starting at 9:20. Communion is celebrated at the early service on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month and at the late service on the 2nd and 4th Sundays.
Where do you meet?
Our address is 110 N. Whitney Way. The entrance faces the main parking lot which is behind the building from Whitney Way. The sanctuary is just inside the main doors to the left. Click here for a map with our location.
What if I have questions when I get there?
Prior to each service, there are greeters standing near the entrance. They are here to not only welcome you to Mount Olive, but to answer any questions you may have. Ushers are also standing at the entrance to the sanctuary and are prepared to assist you in any way needed.
Is there anything offered to those needing assistance?
We do have assistive listening devices for you to use during service. There are also large print hymnals available. There is also a staffed nursery at each service. Please ask an usher or greeter for more information.
How should I dress?
We have a friendly and casual atmosphere; feel free to dress in the way you are most comfortable. This could be from jeans to business casual to a suit and tie. Please don’t worry about what you are wearing; we want you to enjoy worshipping with us.
Do I need to bring anything?
The worship service will be printed out in the bulletin given to you by an usher. Any other hymns or orders of worship needed can be found in the hymnals located in front of you in the pews. We use the hardcover Lutheran Hymnal (LH) and a softcover hymnal supplement (HS).
Will I have to stand up and introduce myself?
There is not a formal introduction of newcomers and visitors during the service. We do take the first couple minutes of each service to greet those around us which will give you a chance to meet those sitting around you. We also ask that you fill out one of the brown cards located in front of your pew so that we may know who worshipped with us. If you would like pastor to contact you, please indicate that on the card. We would love for you to join us for coffee and fellowship between the two services.
What is the service like?
The 8:00 am service will follow a traditional format with hymns and liturgy coming from the Lutheran Hymnal, Bible readings, and a sermon. We also have a choir and bell choir that assist in worship. The service usually lasts about an hour. The 10:30 am service has a more contemporary format with our praise band, Olive Branch, leading the music. There are also Bible readings and a sermon during this service.
Is an offering taken?
We do pass an offering plate during service so that our worship may include bringing our gifts to God. This is voluntary and is intended for our members. Visitors should not feel obligated to participate.
Will I feel out of place?
Please feel free to ask anyone about a question you may have. We have a very friendly congregation and we love welcoming visitors. There are other visitors at each service, so you shouldn’t feel alone in being new.
What if I don't have much experience with going to church?
Please come to one of our services to see what we’re about and what we can do for you. You will not be expected to say or do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. Participate in as much or as little of the worship service that you’d like. If you have any questions or are interested in communing with us, Pastor Jason would love to speak with you regarding our communion practices before worship.
What if I want more information after the service?
We do have a welcome center located just inside the main doors. One of the greeters for the service will be there afterwards to answer any questions you may have. Feel free to take one of our visitor folders that contain more information about our church as well as the Lutheran faith. If you would like more information during the week, please contact the church office.
